My name is
Fiona Wood, my whole family are dog lovers and I have been
surrounded by dogs since I was a
young child,
mostly St Bernards, which we used to show and even occasionally bred.
I have been
training my own dogs since 1991 when I was 13 years old after my mum
and dad
brought another St Bernard puppy named "Sheba". I quickly
developed a bond with Sheba and really
enjoyed
interacting with her and seeing her learning new things.
I got my own
dogs when I left home and got married. We had a large farm on the
outskirts of Cove with over
2000
head of livestock. To help us with all the livestock we had
several Border Collies which I trained to work
the sheep,
cattle and pigs, eventually breeding our own working lines and training
the pups with livestock before
they
went onto their new homes.
I fell in
love with my current breed of dog, the Rottweiler, in 2003 when I got my
first Rottie, Rosco.
Rosco was dog
and human aggressive when I first got him and could only be out in
public muzzled.
But after 2
years of hard work he had transformed into a loving family dog who could
be safely walked
off lead in
public. The change in Rosco further fuelled my enthusiasm to want
to purse a
career in dog
training.
I started
volunteering with Fife Rottweiler Rescue to help rescue, rehabilitate
and rehome some of these
beautiful
Rotties and gained a lot of experience with working with some of my
foster dogs to overcome
issues
before they went on to their new home, of course I also failed at
fostering and ended up keeping
3 for
myself...
I started
working for the K9 Health Centre in Portlethen in 2009, initially as a
Canine Hydrotherapist, but
through K9 I
gained my B.I.P.D.T. Grade 2 (Instructors) qualification in August 2012.
I then went on to set
up and
develop the dog training element of The K9 Health Centre. I stayed
in my role as Head Training
Instructor
there until August 2014 training the staff in the dog daycare facility,
running puppy and
obedience
classes as well as 1-2-1 behavioural lessons.
In 2014 I decided that the time
was right for me to start out on my own, over the
past 28 years I have gained a
lot of
experience working with all breeds, sizes and ages of dogs, I have
given a good foundation to my
experience by
improving my knowledge of dog behaviour through training courses,
attending seminars and
reading books by
world renown trainers including Dr David Ryan, Larry Krohn, Karen Pryor,
Michael Ellis,
Dr Sophia Yin,
John Rogerson, Patricia McConnell, Bart Bellon and Tyler Muto.
